Who operates the game

Motorsport Geography is operated by Dave Barnes, using the ArcTheory Studio name, in Victoria, Australia. For privacy questions or requests, email arctheory.studio@gmail.com or compose in Gmail ↗.

What we collect

  • A random browser identity, its session record, and a generated alias or nickname you choose.
  • Your daily and practice attempts: selected map pins, answers, scores, category, timing, completion and game version. These pins are game guesses. The app does not request your device’s GPS location.
  • Clue reports: the affected question, reason, note and submission time. Do not put sensitive information in a report.
  • Usage events such as visits, starts, sharing actions and map or picture errors. After a game session exists, events can be linked to that browser identity. Referral links can link a new player’s start to the sharing player.
  • Technical information needed to deliver and protect the site. The app hashes an IP address for request limiting; hosting and map providers also receive normal network information such as IP address and browser request headers.
  • If you email us, your address, message and information you choose to include.

Playing does not require an account, email address, real name or payment details. We do not use fingerprinting or install Google Analytics or advertising scripts in the current game.

Cookies and browser storage

The essential mg_guest cookie connects this browser to saved progress and enforces its daily attempt. It lasts up to 180 days and is renewed while you use the game. Local storage remembers your active attempt and sound preference.

You can clear this storage in browser settings. Clearing it removes this browser’s connection to saved records; it does not delete those records from the server. Another browser or device will have separate progress. Contact us if you want server-held information removed.

Why we use this information

We use it to run the game, save and restore progress, calculate standings, reduce abuse, investigate content reports, understand completion and return visits, and improve reliability. We do not sell player information or use it for targeted advertising.

Daily standings can display your alias or chosen nickname, score and rank. Shared results contain the information you choose to share. Use a nickname rather than your real name, and avoid identifying another person.

Providers and external links

Vercel hosts the website and Supabase stores game records. The application server and database are configured in Sydney. Provider support, logs, infrastructure and backups can involve processing outside Australia; selecting Sydney does not mean all processing stays in Australia.

Your browser requests map tiles, fonts and map graphics directly from OpenFreeMap. Clicking an organiser or source link takes you to a separate website. Email sent to our Gmail address is processed by Google. These providers handle information under their own policies:

How long records are kept

Daily database cleanup targets usage events older than 30 days and clue reports older than 90 days. Cleanup can be delayed by service interruptions. Saved attempts, scores, player profiles and game integrity records are kept to provide your history and standings while the service operates. They are not erased when the session cookie expires.

Privacy and support correspondence is kept while resolving the request and for any continuing operational or legal need. Provider logs and backups follow the provider’s retention arrangements; removal from the live database may not immediately remove backup copies. We will review retention as the service grows.

Your choices and requests

For access, correction, deletion or a privacy complaint, email the address above. Describe your request and include your game alias and relevant dates if available. We may ask you to submit an in-game report with a one-time reference to establish control of the saved browser before disclosing or changing its records. Do not email a session cookie, password or database credential.

We will explain what we can locate and do, including any records that must be retained for an applicable legal obligation. Deleting game records can remove your history and public standings entries. If browser storage has been cleared, linking records to you may be difficult.

If you are concerned about our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner ↗ for guidance about whether it can assist.

Children and updates

Use a non-identifying nickname. Children should ask a parent or guardian before emailing personal information or submitting a report containing personal details.

We will update this page when information handling changes. Ads, accounts or payments would require a fresh review before introduction. See Contact for help and Terms for game rules and calendar limitations.
